Richard “Dick” Weaver is a retired professor of speech
communication after having taught more than 80,000 students at the
University of Massachusetts and Bowling Green State University in Ohio where
he was nominated for “Best Teacher of the Year.” He earned his
undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan and his
doctor’s degree from Indiana University. Because of sabbaticals, he has
taught at the University of Hawaii and at five universities throughout
Australia. He has written over 30 books (includes all editions) and his best
selling college textbook, Communicating Effectively (with Saundra Hybels) in
it's ninth edition. He has written close to 100 articles, numerous chapters
in books, more than a dozen published speeches, and as many published
essays. He enjoys family activities and traveling and has been around the
world, lived in Bangladesh, driven or camped in each of our 50 states, and
traveled throughout Great Britain, Europe, Canada, Australia, and New
Zealand. Also, he has taken numerous cruises throughout the Caribbean and
Europe. He is married with four adult children and nine grandchildren, and
has lived in Perrysburg, Ohio, for over 30 years.
